Governance Support Package Overview

The MSU Extension Local Government Center is transitioning to a sustainable, tiered Governance Support Package model that bundles training, technical assistance, and resources—ensuring jurisdictions receive reliable, priority support while maintaining long-term service quality and access.

The MSU Extension Local Government Center (LGC) is transitioning to a more sustainable and structured model for delivering governance training and technical assistance to Montana’s local governments. Due to increased demand and limited staffing and funding, the previous model of ongoing, on-demand support is no longer feasible. In response, LGC is introducing Governance Support Packages, which bundle training, technical assistance, and online resources into tiered options offered at a 20% discounted rate. While all jurisdictions will continue to have access to publicly funded resources such as webinars, general governance materials, and a digital search assistant, customized technical assistance and priority services will be reserved for jurisdictions that purchase a package. Beginning July 1, 2026, those without a package will only be able to access stand-alone trainings at full cost and as availability permits, and will no longer have access to the Support Hub, priority scheduling, or discounted services.

The Governance Support Package offerings are designed to meet varying jurisdiction needs, ranging from basic access to comprehensive, priority-level support. Packages include a combination of live virtual and in-person trainings, online course access with flexible seat allocations, participation in the Montana Grown Leadership Academy, and tiered technical assistance response times. Higher-level packages provide greater access to customized trainings, increased course capacity, additional leadership development opportunities, and faster technical support. Optional add-ons are available for additional trainings, course seats, and workshops. All services must be used within the fiscal year of purchase, with limited wrap-around access beginning June 1, and continued access requires annual renewal. Requests for service will be centralized through the new Support Hub portal to ensure equitable and timely delivery. Overall, this new structure enables LGC to provide consistent, high-quality, and sustainable support while aligning services with available resources and growing demand.
