What is the Oath of Office?
"Oath of Office Requirements for Elected and Appointed Municipal Officers in Montana"
As stated in 7-1-4137, MCA, before performing any official duties, every elected and appointed municipal officer must take the oath of office prescribed in Article III, section 3 of the Montana Constitution. The oath, set forth below, may be administered by the mayor, the city or town clerk or any other person authorized by law to administer oaths. It must be filed with the county election administrator and with the city or town clerk. No other oath, declaration, or
test shall be required as a qualification for office. “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, protect and defend the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of the state of Montana, and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity. (So help me God).”
