MMCTFOA and the MSU Local Government Center: Advancing Professional Development for Municipal Clerks, Treasurers, & Finance Officers

The Montana Municipal Clerks, Treasurers & Finance Officers Association (MMCTFOA) is a statewide nonprofit professional organization that supports municipal Clerks, Treasurers, and Finance Officers across Montana. It offers high‑quality professional development, ongoing education, and valuable networking opportunities.  The association administers the Certified Montana Municipal Clerk/Treasurer designation, which requires two years of membership and participation in approved educational programs.

A key part of MMCTFOA’s mission is its partnership with the MSU Local Government Center (LGC). The LGC provides a wide range of training opportunities—such as the annual Montana Municipal Institute, curriculum‑based programs, webinars, and leadership dialogues—that help municipal Clerks build essential skills and practical knowledge for their daily work. MMCTFOA events often align with these MSU programs, enabling Clerks to meet state certification training requirements while learning from MSU Extension faculty and other subject‑matter experts.

Together, MMCTFOA and the MSU Local Government Center offer a coordinated professional development system that supports municipal Clerks, Treasurers, and Finance Officers throughout their careers. By combining statewide peer collaboration with university‑based training, this partnership strengthens the capacity, confidence, and professionalism of local government administrative professionals across Montana.
