What professional development certification options are available for municipal Clerks, Treasurers, & Finance Officers?
State and National Certification Options
The MSU Local Government Center partners with three organizations to provide the education hours required for the following certifications:
**State certification** through the Montana Municipal Clerks, Treasurers and Finance Officers Association (MMCTFOA). This certification is available to individuals working in one or more of the roles listed above and is recognized within the state of Montana.
**National clerk certification** through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). To be eligible, applicants must be a current municipal Clerk or Deputy Clerk. Multiple states recognize this certification, and some require job candidates to hold it. Clerks who are considering employment outside of Montana are encouraged to pursue this certification.
**Treasurer and finance officer certification** through the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada (APT US&C). Treasurers and Finance Officers are eligible to earn this certification.
